Selecting a study abroad city can be a difficult, but important decision for potential study abroad students. We truly believe there are no wrong decisions as each destination has its unique advantages and will provide a great experience. That being said, if your students are unsure if Italy is the right study abroad destination for them, we’ve compiled our list of the five reasons why Italy is the ultimate study abroad destination choice.

1) The History

The history of Italy is vast and most notably includes one of the greatest empires of all time, the Roman Empire. Today, Italians still have a strong connection to their history and traditions that they carry with them with each new generation.

2) Home to over 54 UNESCO World Heritage Sites

Pisa, Italy

Fun fact: Italy has the most UNESCO World Heritage Sites of any country in the world, just like the Piazza del Duomo in Pisa that is pictured above. Students can use this list of sites as a study abroad travel bucket list!

3) Birthplace of the Renaissance

As if Italy needed to add anything else to its resume, the city of Florence is also considered to be the birthplace of the Renaissance. Don’t forget to visit the world famous Uffizi Gallery in Florence, which houses some of the greatest works of art from Renaissance artists. The influences from this time period can be seen in art and architecture across Italy and have impacted future generations of artists across the world.

4) The Food

We might be biased because we’ve spent so much time in the amazing country, but we can say with a high level of confidence that Italian cuisine is some of the best we’ve had in Europe. If you don’t believe us, you’ll just have to visit Italy and try it for yourself.

5) Travel Opportunities

Not only does Italy have a huge number of amazing places and sights to visit (see #2 above), but its location also allows students to easily travel throughout Europe. The rest of Europe is within a reach via a variety of transportation methods including coach buses, trains or planes.
